As of October 9, 2026, ATF no longer requires a Form 4, a tax stamp, or fingerprints for a silencer, short-barreled rifle, or short-barreled shotgun. Fill out the 4473, pass the background check, and most folks take it home the same day.
What this is
Overview
It doesn't matter where the silencer comes from. Buy one out of our case, have us special order it from our distributors, order it through our Silencer Shop page, or have one you bought somewhere else shipped here. Every one of those now goes out the same way: 4473, background check, home with you. Short-barreled rifles and shotguns work the same way. Federal law still applies, so in general you need to be a Texas resident, 21 or older for a silencer, and able to pass the check.

Pick your silencer
Buy one from our case, ask us to special order the model you want, or order it through our Silencer Shop page. Bought one somewhere else already? Have it shipped to us.

Ordering from Silencer Shop? Use our link
Use our link so the top of their site reads "Your Dealer: Fun Guns." If it says Unknown Dealer, or another shop, we can't handle the sale. Check that line before you order anything.
If it isn't already in the store, we log it in when it arrives and call the number on the order, so put a good one in.

Paperwork at the counter
Bring a current, government-issued photo ID that shows your current address: driver license, License to Carry, or state ID. You fill out the 4473 and we run the background check, same as any gun. No Form 4, no prints, no stamp.

Take it home
Most folks finish the same day. If a check gets delayed it can take up to 3 business days to clear before we can release it.

There is no federal tax stamp on silencers, SBRs or SBSs anymore. Taking a short-barreled rifle or shotgun across state lines still needs an ATF Form 20, and other states have their own laws, so check before you travel.
